1.Smog means smoke and fog in English. It consists of harmful chemical compounds, i.e. nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide, as well as particulate matter PM10. The norms of the latter are exceeded by up to several hundred percent in all cities in Poland. It is not indifferent to our health. PM10 dust has such small grains that it easily penetrates deep into the lungs. It settles on the walls of the alveoli, making breathing difficult. It causes inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, allergies and asthma attacks. If inhaled for a long time, it can cause cancers of the lungs, throat and larynx. According to WHO experts, at a concentration of PM10 - 150 μg/m3 (three times above the norm), mortality increases by 5% in a short time. It is estimated that up to 400 inhabitants of Krakow - the leader of poisonous cities - die prematurely every year due to PM10 inhalation. Inhalation of smog causes troublesome ailments. The symptoms may be similar to the common cold. It causes coughing attacks (this is how the body defends itself against impurities - it tries to throw them out), shortness of breath, itching of the nose and conjunctiva, red eyes, increased secretion of mucus (to protect the nasal mucosa). Smog impairs the defense functions of the respiratory system, paving the way for bacteria and viruses.
2. In a room with an active brine graduation tower, an aerosol rich in valuable microelements such as iodine, bromine, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron and sodium is produced. Breathing for half an hour with air saturated with a brine aerosol makes the dose of absorbed minerals higher than after a whole day of sunbathing at the seaside!
